There was recently a post on Forbes going around the Internet called “218 reasons to vote for Obama.”In the interest of fairness and equality I thought it would be helpful to provide 218 reasons not to vote for Obama, and unlike many of the exaggerated or deceptive or completely inaccurate reasons in the original list, I am providing linked citations for every one of my claims.
For many, President Obama entered office with a messiah-like status. He would solve things, fix them, make the country better. The anti-war movement of the left disappeared, partially because of partisanship, but partially because Obama was going to take care of it. For many who voted for him, their vote was the beginning and end of their civic engagement. Obama would take care of the rest.
My vote was my only way to say: I am here and I count. I wish President-elect Trump all the best and have hope that Washington will, in the next four years, actually work for all Americans.
I want to change history with my vote like my grandfather did with his when he voted President Barack Obama into office. To me, voting is an opportunity to have a say in the running of my government, a privilege not to be taken for granted, and a chance to change America.
The first reason you should vote, is if you don’t vote others decide your future. If you don’t vote, don’t complain. If everybody doesn’t vote then a bad president might be elected. If you voted you might have made a big difference in the U.S. future. If you don’t vote you don’t have a say in democracy. Vote and be a part of America!
